Awesome Light Show

I saw the most awesome light show last night. We were flying over the thunderstorm that hit TN. At first I'm seeing quite a bit of lightning in the clouds below. Another bolt every 2-3 seconds. Never had to wait more than 5 seconds for the next one. It was very cool.

Then we flew next to this giant thunderhead (maybe even a super-cell) that was several thousand feet tall and several miles wide. This is where the serious action was taking place. There was 8-15 lightning bolts going off every second! Never had to wait more than a 1/4 second for the next bolt during the "quiet" periods. The best analogy I can give is imagine the finale during a big fireworks display. That's what this lightning looked like in this cloud. This part alone was going on for over 20 minutes!

Now, imagine all this with no sound. I couldn't hear any thunder at all. Kinda freaky.
